Muchas gracias a Estela Cordero y a toda la gente de Casa Museo Gene Byron, por invitarme a mostrar mis obras en el Museo, de hecho es la segunda vez que tengo una exposición aquí!. Mi trabajo encáustico aborda temas que incluyen “ver” sin prejuicios. Teniendo esto en cuenta, el arte abstracto puede permitir al espectador concentrarse en el simple placer de disfrutar del color, la composición, los patrones y la textura; en lugar de descartar rápidamente una pieza porque contiene objetos o escenas conocidas que el espectador ya ha categorizado. Me fascinan los efectos del tiempo y la erosión sobre los objetos naturales y artificiales (por ejemplo, metales en descomposición con pátina, puertas pintadas y descascaradas de varias capas, estratos rocosos o vistas macro fuera de contexto). Soy un amante de esta realidad humillante y destructora del ego que llamo “arte accidental”. Mi vida y mi arte son una búsqueda continua del equilibrio y una agradable combinación entre lo femenino y lo masculino, lo intuitivo y lo intelectual. Hermann Hesse defendió en sus libros que uno debe abrazar, no negar, cualquier parte del yo, incluso si estas partes parecen opuestas. Demuestro estas ideas de varias maneras que son adecuadas para la expresión en cera: usando colores sorprendentes y patrones gráficos, creando profundidad visual mediante capas, empleando técnicas de textura y transferencia, y combinando pintura encáustica con otros materiales. En esta serie de trabajos de 2017-2023, exploro los temas de la paz y el ritualismo, de la actitud positiva y la libertad. Espero que puedas disfrutar de las piezas. Many thanks to Estela Cordero and all the people of Casa Museo Gene Byron,  for inviting me to show my works in the Museum, in fact the second time that I’ve had an exhibition here!
My encaustic work addresses themes including “seeing” without prejudice. With this in mind, abstract art can allow the viewer to concentrate on the simple pleasure of enjoying color, composition, pattern, and texture; rather than quickly dismissing a piece because it contains known objects or scenes that the viewer has already categorized.
The effects of time and erosion on natural and man-made objects– for example decaying metals with patina, multi-layered painted and peeling doorways, rock strata, or out-of-context macro views– fascinate me. I am a lover of this humbling and ego-busting reality that I term “accidental art.”
My life and my art are a continual search for the balance between, and a pleasing combination of the feminine and the masculine, and the intuitive and the intellectual. Hermann Hesse espoused in his books that one should embrace, not negate, any part of the self, even if these parts seem to be opposed.
I demonstrate these ideas in various ways that are suited for expression in wax: using amazing color and graphic patterning, creating visual depth by layering, employing textural and transfer techniques, and marrying encaustic paint to other materials.
In this series of works from 2017-2023, I am exploring the themes of peace and ritualism, of a positive attitude and liberty. I hope that you can enjoy the pieces.
